Alisson injured again in Venezia defeat, third Napoli relapse in a month

Alisson has gone down injured again. He came off the bench at the Penzo on Saturday 17 October, had a shot saved by Stankovic and soon afterwards had to stop with a muscle problem.

Alisson had been training with the group again for just eight days. A grade-two tear in his left hamstring had previously ruled him out of the Champions League opener against Arsenal. His return lasted a few minutes.

It is not an isolated case. Anguissa and Neres were both injured again after being declared recovered, which makes three returns and three relapses in a month.

That can happen to one player. Three times running to one squad makes us ask whether return timings are being managed correctly. The club has not yet addressed that question in public.

The league and European picture is already heavy. Napoli are ninth with 10 points after seven games, nine behind leaders Inter. In the Champions League they have no points, after the Arsenal game and a 3-1 defeat at Villarreal. Every relapse narrows Allegri's options when he needs answers.

Bodø/Glimt visit the Maradona on Tuesday 20 October at 21:00 CET (20:00 UK, 15:00 ET). Roma follow in Serie A on Saturday 24 October.

We will see who Allegri can field in attack. There is no margin for another slip in either game.
