Allegri set to rest McTominay for the Frosinone game
The midfielder passed his fitness test on Thursday, but the plan is reportedly to keep him fresh for the Champions League trip to Villarreal.

Two days out from Frosinone, attention has shifted to the midfield: Massimiliano Allegri looks set to leave Scott McTominay out of the squad, even though the Scotland midfielder passed his fitness test on Thursday following his 8 September surgery for a benign cardiac arrhythmia. The idea is to manage his minutes with Villarreal-Napoli in mind, the Champions League trip set for Tuesday 13 October.
In that scenario, the midfield would again fall to Billy Gilmour and Stanislav Lobotka, the pairing that started the draw in Florence. Kevin De Bruyne and Antonio Vergara are said to be competing for the other spot, though Vergara's right soleus problem has already been given by the club as the reason for his absence against Frosinone, Villarreal and Venezia.

Nothing is confirmed yet. Allegri goes into the Maradona game short out wide too, with Favasuli, Olivera and Vergara all missing and Politano a doubt, in a month with nine matches across the league and the Champions League that forces rotation even in midfield.
