Dragusin in doubt for Fiorentina-Napoli after muscle strain
The centre-back went off early in Fiorentina's 3-0 Coppa Italia win over Pisa with a muscle complaint. Scans on Thursday 17 September will decide whether Vanoli can pick him against Napoli.
Four days out from Fiorentina-Napoli, a new name has emerged from the Franchi: Radu Dragusin. The Romanian centre-back, formerly of Genoa, went off early in Fiorentina's Coppa Italia (Italy's cup competition) derby win over Pisa with a muscle complaint, and his place in Sunday's game against Napoli is not guaranteed.
The mood inside Fiorentina is cautiously optimistic. The hope is that it was fatigue rather than a proper injury, and that Dragusin asked to come off precisely to stop the problem getting worse. The day after the Pisa game, Paolo Vanoli's squad did only a light session; real preparation for Napoli starts on Thursday 17 September, when scans will settle it — either a normal return to training, or a decision not to risk him.
