Gutiérrez sale funded Napoli's window, kept Lucca and Lang

President Aurelio De Laurentiis had ordered exits before arrivals this summer — Lucca and Noa Lang stayed, so Allegri lost his new striker, and it was Miguel Gutiérrez's move to Bayer Leverkusen that balanced the books.

De Laurentiis set the rule in summer: Napoli had to sell surplus players before buying. Giovanni Manna moved several players on, but not Lorenzo Lucca or Noa Lang, who both stayed. That forced Massimiliano Allegri to give up a specific request — a new striker, who was only meant to arrive once one of the two had been sold.

The window closed with a net spend of around €47.5m, balanced instead by a heavier departure: Miguel Gutiérrez's move to Bayer Leverkusen. A painful but unavoidable call that is costing Napoli on the pitch too — the Spanish full-back currently tops the Bundesliga's assist charts.

Lucca, signed from Udinese for €35m, is still without a league goal this season (just two since joining Napoli). The club has told his agent, Beppe Riso, that October is decisive: if the drought continues, a Serie A loan in January is the likely outcome.
