Maradona set for sellout against Frosinone amid De Laurentiis tension

Supporters are being urged to keep the atmosphere at Saturday's game about the team rather than the president, after banners targeted Aurelio De Laurentiis in the wake of the draw in Florence.

The Maradona is set for a sellout on Saturday 10 October, when Napoli host Frosinone at 20:45 CET (19:45 UK, 14:45 ET) in matchday six of Serie A. It is not a glamour fixture, but the push for a place among the leaders — Napoli sit ninth on 7 points after five games — has been enough to fill the stadium regardless.

The sellout comes amid a relationship between the organised support and the club's ownership that is anything but relaxed. After the draw in Florence on 20 September, banners against Aurelio De Laurentiis appeared at Castel Volturno (the training ground) and around the Maradona, some of them also targeting the president's sons. One, dated 27 September, called him "senile".

On the eve of the match comes a call for a calm atmosphere in the stands and for supporters to avoid demonstrations against the president, in the name of dialogue between the fanbase and the ownership.

That such an appeal is needed just hours before kick-off says plenty about how tense things are around the club this season. Two wins, a draw and two defeats in five games is not the campaign the club expected with Allegri in place of Conte, and the chants against De Laurentiis are the most visible result of that. Yet the stadium is filling up all the same — a sign that affection for the shirt remains separate from judgement on how the club is run.

Frosinone arrive as newly promoted, with no pressure of their own in the table, determined to complicate things for a side that does have ground to make up. From 20:45 CET on Saturday, it will become clear whether a full Maradona can push Napoli out of the part of the table they currently occupy.
