Marianucci steps up recovery with first outdoor session

The centre-back, out since the summer and outside Allegri's plans, has moved past gym-only work — staff see him as the closest of Napoli's absentees to a return.

Napoli returned to training at Castel Volturno after the rest day Allegri gave following the 1-1 draw in Florence, with ten players away on international duty. The name that matters most from the session is Luca Marianucci: sidelined since the summer, the defender worked outdoors for the first time in a differentiated session, after weeks confined to the gym.

The step marks a real change from simple recovery management, and lines up with reports on Napoli's planning: Marianucci is among those expected to be ready for the Serie A restart on Saturday 10 October against Frosinone at the Maradona. Spinazzola, Alisson Santos and Meret are still working in the gym — Meret is described as close to rejoining the group, while the timeline for the Brazilian remains longer.

Having an extra option at centre-back is no small thing for a side that was already without Buongiorno in Florence, and that heads toward January — with Beukema still on zero league minutes — acutely aware of how thin its defensive cover is behind the starters.
