McTominay in talks over new Napoli contract, wage still not agreed
The Scot's deal runs to 30 June 2028 and the club want to extend it. Talks stalled briefly but have restarted with moderate optimism, though an agreement will take more time.

Napoli want to tie McTominay to their future. His contract expires on 30 June 2028 and the club are working on an extension. Arena Napoli understands the player has already said he wants to stay, despite interest from several top clubs, Real Madrid among them.
The sticking point is the wage. A raise is coming, but the two sides have not agreed a figure. The numbers being discussed are €6m plus bonuses, rising to as much as €7m. Aurelio De Laurentiis is ready to reward him with a rich new deal, but the matter remains open.

Talks went through a short period of stalemate before restarting with confidence and moderate optimism. Napoli are convinced they will reach an agreement to extend the contract to 30 June 2030, with a pay rise, although it will take a little more time. This is not a renewal that can be called done.
The timing is no accident. McTominay scored twice against Bodø/Glimt, in the 41st and 75th minutes, in Tuesday's 4-3 win that brought Napoli their first points in the Champions League group. In the league, though, Napoli are tenth with 10 points after 7 games, 9 points off the top. With the team so far from its stated goal, the club has chosen to make him a fixture.
On Saturday 24 October at 18:00 CET (17:00 UK, 12:00 ET), Roma under Gasperini visit the Maradona. It is the second test the club has tied to Allegri's position. For McTominay's renewal there is no such date: the agreement is expected, but it has no deadline yet.
