Meret defends Napoli display after Venice defeat
The goalkeeper blames a lapse in concentration, not a poor performance, for the 1-0 loss at Venezia and calls for unity behind the squad.

Alex Meret has rejected the idea that Napoli played badly in the 1-0 defeat at Venezia, telling Dazn the result came down to a single lapse. "Today we didn't play a bad game, we were punished for a lapse in concentration," he said. "It was a game we could comfortably have won given what we created."
Adams scored the only goal in the 49th minute, assisted by Sohm, and De Bruyne missed a penalty in the 68th, saved by Stankovic, who also denied several other Napoli efforts. Napoli had 29 shots to Venezia's 9 and 12 corners to none. Meret also defended the defence: "We didn't concede anything in the first half, we were focused. Apart from one half-chance on the break, we never really risked anything."

Napoli are ninth with 10 points from seven games, and supporters have called on social media for Allegri to be sacked. Meret struck a different note: "We know we're a strong group, we've shown that in recent years. We have to follow the coach and all believe in ourselves." The next test comes on Tuesday 20 October, when Napoli host Bodø/Glimt at the Maradona in the Champions League, sitting on zero points after defeats to Arsenal and Villarreal.
