Napoli climb to 22nd in the Champions League after 4-3 win over Bodø/Glimt

Their first European points put Napoli in the play-off places after three rounds, but the maths is clear: they need at least three wins from their last five games.

The 4-3 win over Bodø/Glimt lifts Napoli to 22nd in the Champions League league phase, inside the play-off places for now. After the 0-1 against Arsenal and a 3-1 defeat at Villarreal, the first three points came in round three. Napoli threw away the lead three times, and Fet's 90th-minute goal kept the Maradona on edge until the final whistle. It takes the zero off the board, but it is not a step forward.

To stay in the play-off race, Napoli need at least three wins from the five games left. That is more than they have won in Europe so far this season, and they will have to do it without conceding three to every visitor to the Maradona. Next up is Porto away on Wednesday 4 November at 21:00 CET (20:00 UK, 15:00 ET) at the Estádio do Dragão. That night should show whether Bodø/Glimt was a turning point or a one-off.

Paris Saint-Germain and Liverpool lead the table with 9 points from three wins. Before Porto, Napoli host Roma in Serie A on Saturday 24 October at 18:00. Roma are third on 17 points and Napoli ninth on 10. The European table looks respectable again. The domestic one does not.
