Napoli monitor Cruzeiro goalkeeper Otávio as price climbs

The Brazilian club has tied the 2005-born keeper down to 2031 and is fending off Porto, Borussia Dortmund, Tottenham and Nottingham Forest — but will talk business for €25-30m.

Giovanni Manna is tracking Otávio Eleodoro Rezende Costa, Cruzeiro's 20-year-old goalkeeper, while Napoli prepare for Bodø/Glimt on Tuesday.

Born on 27 December 2005 in Perdigão, in Minas Gerais, Otávio joined Cruzeiro's academy at 10 and made his first-team debut in January 2025.

According to transfer reports from Ekrem Konur, competition for him is heavy. Porto and Borussia Dortmund are following him alongside Napoli, and in the Premier League both Tottenham and, especially, Nottingham Forest are interested.

Forest already tried to sign him in the summer, with a €13m bid turned down by Cruzeiro. Since then the Brazilian club has hardened its position, extending Otávio's contract to 2031 and inserting a €100m release clause for foreign clubs — a figure designed to put off any easy approach.

Even with that clause in place, Cruzeiro are not shutting the door on a deal. Their asking price to open talks is between €25m and €30m, far above the roughly €10m valuation Transfermarkt puts on the player. The gap shows how much his recent form has outgrown, in the club's eyes, the still-raw numbers of his young career.

Napoli, who cannot move again until the winter window reopens on 2 January 2027, see him as a name to watch rather than a deal in motion. Alex Meret's contract runs out in June 2027 with no renewal talks under way, and with Milinković-Savić and Contini also in the goalkeeping department, investing in a 2005-born keeper would make sense as a long-term move, not a January signing. For now, the goalkeeping position is the least of the club's concerns in a week that starts with Tuesday's game against Bodø/Glimt.
