Napoli target back-to-back league wins away to Venezia

The two sides meet at the Pier Luigi Penzo on Saturday 17 October for the 15th time in all competitions, with Venezia still on zero points and handing Davide Nicola his debut in the dugout.

Venezia and Napoli meet at the Penzo on Saturday 17 October at 15:00 CET for the 15th time in official games between Serie A and Serie B. The record across those 14 meetings reads four wins for Venezia, two for Napoli and eight draws.

The first of them came in the 1928/29 season and finished 2-2: Venezia went ahead through Luigi Pantani (18') and Aldo Padovan (24'), before Napoli levelled late through Nicola Cassese (79') and Camilio Fenili (90').

In recent years the script has barely changed. Five of the last meetings between the two sides finished 0-0, including the most recent one, on 16 March 2025, when Antonio Conte's Napoli could not get past a goalless draw against Venezia under Radu.

Venezia have not beaten Napoli at the Penzo in 23 years. Their last win there came on 24 May 2003, in Serie B, 2-1, with the goal scored by Ruben Maldonado (55') — a Paraguayan centre-back who would later play for Napoli himself.

In Serie A alone, Venezia's last win over Napoli goes back to 1942: a 4-1 victory built on goals from Lidio Stefanini (32'), Francesco Pernigo (46'), Giovanni Alberti (60') and Sandro Puppo (69'). Umberto Busani's goal four minutes from time was not enough for Napoli.

Napoli's last win at the Penzo came under Luciano Spalletti, on 6 February 2022: 0-2, settled after a difficult first half by Victor Osimhen's header (59') and sealed by Andrea Petagna in the 10th minute of stoppage time — still the latest goal in Napoli's Serie A history.

Looking at these numbers now says more about the past than the present. Napoli arrive at the Penzo three days after losing 3-1 at Villarreal in the Champions League, and having won only once in their last four league games, 3-0 against Frosinone. Venezia are bottom with zero points after six matchdays and are changing coach at the lowest point of their season.

Two draws out of eight do not tell us whether the Penzo will be a happy hunting ground this time. Only the 90 minutes on Saturday will.

The match kicks off at 15:00 CET, with Juan Luca Sacchi refereeing and Fabbri on VAR. It is shown exclusively on DAZN, with no Sky coverage.
