Perez: beating Napoli has priceless value
Villarreal's head coach explains how his side turned around Rrahmani's early goal, defends his substitutions, and says the result will carry no weight against PSG and Liverpool.

Villarreal beat Napoli 3-1 at the Ceramica on Tuesday 13 October, and head coach Iñigo Pérez used his press conference to explain how his side overturned Rrahmani's 8th-minute opener. "After the first goal we reacted well: we have to make sure that vision doesn't make us feel like we're in a pit, we have to accept the idea of conceding a goal against Napoli, but it was crucial not to abandon ideas, strategies and tactics we had worked on for a long time and that paid off," the Spanish coach said.
On the weight of the result, Pérez did not hold back: "All wins increase convictions and ideas. When you win and the team develops the game plan, it's a priceless asset for raising the demands a coach has of his players." On the second half, when Napoli switched to a 4-2-4 to try to get back into the game, he defended his changes from the bench, Foyth included: "With the substitutions, the first idea was to adapt to Napoli's aggressive changes [...] Many times, even if they look defensive, substitutions can give you control, which matters far more."

Pérez has already moved on from Napoli, with Elche up next in the league before Champions League games against PSG and Liverpool. "What happened today won't affect the games with PSG and Liverpool: you always start from zero, and by the time we're at Anfield we'll have emotionally forgotten about this win," he concluded.
