Ranieri set to extend Fiorentina deal after being offered to Napoli
The centre-back's agent, Mario Giuffredi, pitched him to Napoli more than once in recent windows, including at the start of this season, before Fiorentina moved to tie him down.
Luca Ranieri is staying at Fiorentina. The left-footed centre-back, born in 1999, confirmed a contract extension is close: "We are close to extending the contract, Fiorentina means everything to me."
The move also has a Napoli angle. Agent Mario Giuffredi had offered Ranieri to Napoli more than once in recent transfer windows, including at the start of this season, when Allegri's back line was already dealing with injuries.

Giovanni Manna chose a different route, turning instead to Benoît Badiashile, who joined on a paid loan from Chelsea with an option to buy. With Olivera out through a groin injury picked up on international duty and Favasuli sidelined for six weeks, the Frenchman remains one of the options Allegri is considering, including as an emergency left-back against Frosinone.
For Ranieri, who had considered leaving Fiorentina before Paolo Vanoli's arrival as coach, a season as a starter now awaits. The renewal rules out any transfer, including to Napoli.
