Zanetti picks Naples and Piazza del Plebiscito for Fondazione Pupi's 25th
The former Inter captain has chosen the Neapolitan city to mark the anniversary of his foundation, recalling Maradona and the mural in the Quartieri Spagnoli (the Spanish Quarters).
Javier Zanetti has chosen Piazza del Plebiscito to celebrate the 25th anniversary of Fondazione Pupi, the charity initiative whose event will support six community associations in the Naples area. The former Inter captain explained the choice to Il Mattino as a bond that goes beyond club colours and sporting rivalry.
"Celebrating the Foundation's 25th anniversary in Piazza del Plebiscito is an indescribable emotion. It felt almost a duty to choose Napoli to mark such an important milestone in our history. In these streets you breathe Diego's name," Zanetti said. The Argentine also recalled playing as an opponent at the old San Paolo and the feeling, still "goosebumps" today, of visiting the Maradona mural in the Quartieri Spagnoli.

Zanetti described a bond he calls unique in world football: every Argentine player, he said, immediately senses the magic the city reserves for the memory of the Pibe de Oro, an affection that follows the whole national team whenever it plays, aware of the special support that always comes from the alleys of Naples.
