De Bruyne and Lang score in three minutes to sink Frosinone

Höjlund hit the bar early, then De Bruyne and Lang settled it before half-time in a 2-0 win on Sunday 11 October. The second half was calm management, with no late scares for Allegri's side.

Napoli settled this game before half-time, in the space of three minutes. Höjlund had already given the first warning in the 3rd minute, heading against the bar. De Bruyne put Napoli ahead from the penalty spot in the 29th minute, and three minutes later, in the 32nd, Lang doubled the lead. From that point, Frosinone were chasing a game that had already slipped away.

Precision, not dominance

The numbers tell a precise story. Napoli did not overwhelm Frosinone for volume of play — 18 shots to 17, possession almost split down the middle at 51% to 49%. Where Napoli were superior was in precision. Seven shots on target against just one for the visitors show that when Napoli did shoot, they shot to hurt; Frosinone racked up attempts, and fouls too (12 to 8), without ever really testing the goalkeeper.

The goalkeeping numbers tell the same story in reverse. Milinković-Savić made only one save all match, while at the other end Frosinone's goalkeeper was called into action five times. Read alongside the two goals before the break, it points to a Napoli side that controlled the game without ever facing a real threat once they were 2-0 up.

The second half was pure management. Allegri made five substitutions in twenty minutes, from the 61st to the 81st — McTominay and Lucca first, then Gilmour, Giovane and finally Politano — rotating his side without ever needing to push for a third goal, which never arrived after Lang's strike. The only notes of the second half were bookings for Rrahmani (80th minute) and Badiashile (85th), both coming with the game already decided and with no bearing on the result.

This is a win that matters for what it showed in half an hour, not for what followed: sharp and clinical from the start, then never troubled again. Does one performance like this end the conversation about Napoli's sterile football in recent weeks? No. But it is the best answer the team could give on the pitch — with actions, not words.
