Giordano pushes back on social media storm over Lucca

A freeze-frame of the striker with Favasuli went viral after Fiorentina-Napoli. Journalist Antonio Giordano says the criticism is unfair.

Lorenzo Lucca came in for a wave of criticism on social media after coming on for a subdued Højlund in the second half of Fiorentina-Napoli. He tried to help his teammates and didn't manage it, and a loud section of the fanbase branded him, at best, "not Napoli material".

Journalist Antonio Giordano pushed back on the harshest accusations. On "Ne parliamo il Lunedì" on Canale Otto, he said a freeze-frame showing Lucca appearing to block Favasuli was being used unfairly against the striker.

Lucca, signed from Udinese, is still without a goal this season and is used by head coach Allegri as the regular alternative to Højlund. Napoli sit ninth on 7 points after the draw in Florence, with Frosinone up next in the league on 10 October — another chance for Lucca to answer on the pitch, not on social media.
