Giordano: Q8 site is perfect for Napoli's new stadium

The journalist details the former San Giovanni a Teduccio refinery area now under land reclamation, pointing to its rail station, motorway links and room to grow onto the old silos. Land valuation is due this week, ahead of fresh talks between the club and Q8 Italia.

While the squad nurses the wounds of the defeat in Venice and prepares for Bodø/Glimt, the stadium dossier is moving on a separate track, and moving with precision. Journalist Marco Giordano said on his social channels that he had personally inspected the former Q8 refinery site in San Giovanni a Teduccio, the area under land reclamation where Napoli's new stadium could be built.

Giordano set out the site's planning status: "We're talking about an area classed as Zona A.S.I. (Industrial Development Area) and Area S.I.N. (Site of National Interest), where a working FS rail station already exists (the Traccia station)." That technical detail fed into a clear verdict on the location.

Tra vicinanza alle arterie principali della città, gli svincoli dall'autostrada e per la presenza di una stazione, logisticamente la zona è perfetta

There is also room to grow beyond what has been reported so far. Giordano said the area could expand onto the section where the refinery's silos still stand, a possibility he tied to the symbolic weight of the project.

Si tratterebbe soprattutto di riscattare, finalmente, un'area troppo degradata della nostra città: qualcosa che resterebbe, praticamente per sempre, ed è della quale bisognerebbe essere solo grati ad Aurelio De Laurentiis

On Giordano's timeline, things are moving fast: the economic valuation of the land is expected in the week starting Monday 19 October, the technical step that comes before new contacts between Napoli and the leadership of Q8 Italia. It is a piece of a negotiation already at an advanced stage: Q8's asking price for the roughly 25 hectares already cleared for construction is above €20m, and De Laurentiis is said to be close to an agreement, with a deadline for a yes or no set for December 2026.

The City of Naples has not yet joined the technical table but is not standing in the project's way. It is in this space that the name MSC Arena has circulated, with the Aponte family floated as a possible partner. In parallel, the alternative of redeveloping the Maradona in Fuorigrotta remains on the table, with the choice between selling the club or investing personally in the stadium set to play out in the summer of 2027.

It is the part of the Napoli story moving most smoothly right now. While the team struggles for balance on the pitch and fans question Allegri's position after the Penzo defeat, the stadium project keeps notching up concrete technical steps, zoning, the station, the land valuation, that are largely missing elsewhere this season.
