Gutiérrez tops Bundesliga assist charts after Napoli exit
Sold by Napoli for €26m, the Spanish full-back has a goal and three assists in five games for Bayer Leverkusen and is a contender for the division's Player of the Month award for September.
Miguel Gutiérrez has made the left flank his own at Bayer Leverkusen. Head coach Carles Martínez has left him out just once all season, in the Europa League against Celje; every other game, he has started. In 5 appearances and 353 minutes across all competitions, he has a goal and three assists, including two assists against Union Berlin and a goal plus an assist against Leipzig.
Those numbers put him top of the Bundesliga's assist charts and in contention for the division's Player of the Month award for September. The 2001-born full-back has taken over the left-back spot from Alejandro Grimaldo, and his form could also boost his case for a place in Spain's national team, where the competition includes Marc Cucurella and Grimaldo himself.

Napoli had sold Gutiérrez for €26m after he failed to establish himself as an undroppable starter in Naples. It was a deal that worked out well on the balance sheet — but one that, game after game, is starting to look like a regret on the pitch.
