The Scotland midfielder has two years left on his Napoli contract but no agreement over an extension, and plans to weigh offers next summer with Mourinho's Real Madrid keen on a move.

Scott McTominay has two years still to run on his Napoli contract, but there is no agreement between the two sides over an extension. Talks continue but the gap remains wide, and the outcome points towards a parting of ways at the end of the season. The Scotland midfielder's wage demands are considered outside the parameters set by Aurelio De Laurentiis's club.

McTominay's plan, as things stand, is to stay at Napoli until June and then assess offers over the summer, with one year left on his deal at that point. Real Madrid, under Mourinho, are interested: they are looking for a midfield reinforcement and had already explored a move last summer.

It is the third renewal case to open at Napoli this week, after Anguissa and Lobotka. McTominay remains sidelined in the meantime: he had surgery on 9 September for a cardiac ablation to treat an arrhythmia, his return has slipped beyond the international break, and medical clearance is not expected before October.
