Police seize 2,338 fake Napoli centenary shirts advertised on TikTok

The counterfeits copied the sponsors, the labels and the new 100-year crest, and their NFC tags sent buyers' phones to the club's official website.

The Guardia di Finanza (Italy's financial police) has seized 2,338 fake Napoli shirts, all carrying the new centenary crest. An Italian national who advertised them on a personal TikTok profile has been reported to the judicial authorities.

Officers from the force's Naples provincial command identified the suspect on 22 September. They found 230 shirts in the car the suspect was using and more than 2,100 in a storage unit belonging to the suspect's home. The operation was made public on 10 October.

Anyone buying online should look closely at the label. Scanned with a smartphone's NFC reader, it took you to the club's official website. That is exactly the check a supporter would run to feel safe, and here it was part of the con. The sponsors and labels were also copied with great care.

The suspect faces charges of possessing counterfeit goods for sale and of handling stolen goods. The measure is part of the preliminary investigation and can be challenged. Napoli turned 100 in August, and for many of us the anniversary shirt is something to keep. Whoever filled that storage unit was counting on it.
