UEFA has updated its club coefficient ranking, which adds up points from the last five seasons across the Champions League, Europa League and Conference League, and Napoli have slipped to 25th. Nine days after the 0-1 home defeat to Arsenal that opened their Champions League league phase, the Napoli coefficient keeps losing ground. Among Italian clubs Napoli are now fifth, behind Inter (5th, the only Italian side in the top five), Roma (13th), Fiorentina (16th) and Atalanta (23rd).

Bayern Munich lead the overall standings with 129,500 points, ahead of Arsenal and Real Madrid. Behind Napoli sit only Milan (27th), Juventus (34th), Lazio (39th) and Bologna (65th).

The coefficient is not just a number for the record books: it affects seeding in the draws and bracket placement in future European competitions. Napoli's next test in the Champions League is Villarreal, who lost 1-2 at home to Betis on Tuesday 15 September, with the goal from former Napoli defender Natan in the 43rd minute.
