Napoli plots gradual McTominay return for Frosinone

The Scot is back doing gym work after heart ablation surgery and faces a step-by-step path; Meret and Spinazzola are also closing in on their comebacks.

Scott McTominay has resumed training at Castel Volturno after two weeks of rest following ablation surgery for a benign arrhythmia. He starts with gym work, then moves to non-contact training, and only after that rejoins full group sessions — medical clearance is required before he can play again. The staff's target is to have him ready for Frosinone on Saturday 10 October, but without rushing the process. McTominay scored 27 goals across his first two seasons at Napoli, and his absence is felt for the tactical flexibility he gives Allegri in midfield.

Meret, sidelined by a low-grade strain of the left adductor longus, and Spinazzola, dealing with a strain in his right hamstring, are also on the road to recovery — the international break should be enough for both to return gradually. Luca Marianucci, out with a medial collateral ligament problem in his left knee, is also working to return. Anguissa, who went off with a muscle issue late in Fiorentina-Napoli, still needs to be monitored.

Napoli sit ninth on 7 points after five rounds and resume the league on Saturday 10 October at the Maradona against Frosinone. The break is meant to help the squad arrive with more options after their worst start in ten years.
