Napoli set Lang's price at €20m as Galatasaray circle

Four league appearances, two starts, 184 minutes and no goals: the numbers explain why the club is already prepared to listen to January offers. Comments from the Dutch camp have not helped his case.

Four league appearances, only two of them starts, 184 minutes on the pitch in total and no goals: that is Noa Lang's record so far this season at Napoli. It is these numbers, not dressing-room gossip, that explain why the club is said to have already set a price for letting him leave in January, around €20m.

The picture got more complicated with comments from the winger himself, made from the Dutch national team's camp after the game with Greece: "My growth has stalled for a year." The remark confirms Lang's frustration with being substituted so often and with game time that has never arrived consistently at Castel Volturno, Napoli's training ground — and it is unlikely to have gone down well with the coaching staff who work with him daily.

The paradox is that Lang stayed at Napoli over the summer almost by elimination. With the club's policy of selling surplus players before buying, the man sacrificed to balance the books was Miguel Gutiérrez, sold to Bayer Leverkusen for €26m. That profit spared both Lang and Lorenzo Lucca from a departure. Four matchdays and two friendlies against Avellino later, the picture has flipped: it is no longer Lang's sale that looks like the exception, but his staying that is now in question.

The tactical issue

In a closed-doors friendly on Friday 2 October at Castel Volturno, head coach Massimiliano Allegri stuck with a 4-3-3, denying a week of talk about a switch to a back three. But to complete the front three, he moved David Neres into a central midfield role — a hint at which of his wide options the coach currently trusts more. With Matteo Politano an undroppable vice-captain on the right and Neres now usable centrally too, Lang's natural space shrinks further.

On the market, the Dutch winger remains a name mentioned mainly abroad: Ajax and Galatasaray are both keen. The Turkish club already considered him in the summer but opted for Rafa Leão instead; Leão's underwhelming form in Istanbul could now push Galatasaray to come back in with a concrete offer for Lang.

The league campaign, meanwhile, is stuck on 9th place with 7 points from 5 matchdays, and any transfer talk about the attack is tied directly to January's business. The winter window opens on 2 January and closes on 2 February 2027 — the same window in which the club must also decide on Lucca's future, with Torino pushing for him. A player declared available for €20m, in a squad that has already shown Allegri's pecking order in Florence and in summer friendlies, is a sign that patience with Lang has run out.
