Diego Demme announces his retirement from football
The German, at Napoli from 2019 to 2024, ends his career after a final season at Hertha Berlin.
Diego Demme has announced his retirement from playing football. The former midfielder steps away after the 2025/26 season, in which he made fifteen appearances for Hertha Berlin.
In Napoli colours from 2019 to 2024, Demme made 92 appearances with 5 goals and 5 assists. He joined from Lipsia, who were top of the table at the time, with a push from his father Vincenzo, a big Napoli fan who named him Diego after his idol, Maradona.

In a message on social media, Demme wrote: "Arriva prima o poi il momento in cui bisogna dire addio a qualcosa che ti ha accompagnato per quasi tutta la vita. E quel momento, per me, è arrivato." Looking back on his career, he spoke of "grandi partite, successi straordinari, ma naturalmente anche sconfitte, battute d'arresto e momenti difficili che mi hanno plasmato e reso la persona che sono oggi."
