Favasuli's debut steals the front pages

Corriere dello Sport leads with Favasuli. Its headline reads "Favasuli show", and the paper says the full-back made "not even one mistake" on his first Serie A appearance, calling him "best on the pitch" and pointing to the "enthusiasm" around the 2004-born full-back, who came on at half-time and set up Lobotka's assist.

La Repubblica breaks from that chorus. Corbo delivers a harsh verdict on the summer transfer window, headlined "Derisory and illusory transfer window", and asks openly whether Giovanni Manna had warned Massimiliano Allegri about the limits of the squad handed to him. The paper has kept the subject open since the window shut two weeks ago, and the win over Bologna has not closed it.

It is the sharpest contrast in Tuesday 15 September's press review: enthusiasm for a flawless debut on one side, an unresolved reckoning over the squad-building decisions on the other. Both readings sit on the same newsstands, two days on from the same match.

The rest of the front pages look elsewhere already. Gazzetta dello Sport titles "The great duel" for the head-to-head between Roma and Inter, level at the top. Corriere dello Sport calls it "La Fuitina" — a dialect word for a couple's runaway elopement — describing "signs of a breakaway" from the two leaders. Napoli, tenth on six points, does not feature in those pages: for now, the real race is being run without the club.

Our take

A player who debuts and does nothing wrong deserves the front page, but he should be weighed for what he is: eighty minutes, one assist, not a verdict on the Napoli shirt or the national one. Corbo is right to keep the account open on the transfer window: a net negative balance of almost €48m and a midfield left short are not erased by a narrow win over a Bologna side missing several players. And if the front pages already belong to Roma and Inter, there is a reason for it: with six points from four matchdays, the gap to the top is measured in the table, not in one evening's enthusiasm.
