Giuntoli: Napoli let me express myself fully, less room at Juventus
The Atalanta sporting director reflected before Atalanta-Cagliari on his years at Napoli and Juventus, his bond with Maurizio Sarri, and Atalanta's rebuilt squad.
Cristiano Giuntoli, now Atalanta's sporting director, spoke to Sky Sport before Atalanta-Cagliari about his time at Napoli and Juventus. "At Napoli I went through a very long process in which I was able to express myself fully, while in the other spell (at Juventus, ed.) that room shrank slightly," he said. It was during that long spell at Napoli that Giuntoli built the squad that would go on to win the Scudetto, before leaving for Turin and then Bergamo.
On his current role at Atalanta, Giuntoli struck a confident tone: "Now here we share an extremely solid bond of mutual esteem, we are carrying forward a valuable strategic project and I look to the future with great confidence." He also addressed his relationship with Maurizio Sarri, his travelling companion since their Napoli days: "He's never a calm person, he constantly lives with the usual apprehension because he cares deeply about this job, and that's a trait of his character I've known for many years now. Our trust in him is total."

On the squad built over the summer, Giuntoli asked for patience: "Thanks to the resources made available by ownership and the work of CEO Percassi, we are confident we have built an important squad, but you have to factor in a settling-in period to reach a top-level standard of performance."
