Meret rejected five offers this summer, including Fiorentina
Alex Meret said he would only leave Napoli if the club told him they had lost faith in him — that call never came. He is set to face Fiorentina, one of the five sides he turned down, on Sunday 20 September.
Four or five concrete offers arrived last summer, and Alex Meret turned down all of them. According to sources close to the goalkeeper, he said no to Fiorentina, Torino, Juventus, Inter and Roma, setting one condition for leaving Napoli: he would go only if the club officially told him they had lost faith in him. That never happened.
Aurelio De Laurentiis and Giovanni Manna reassured him personally, and head coach Massimiliano Allegri confirmed him as first-choice goalkeeper from day one of pre-season, picking him over Vanja Milinković-Savić with no contest. It is a reversal from last season, when Antonio Conte had Milinković-Savić overtake him in the pecking order; Meret waited his turn without complaint and returned as starter in the 1-0 win over Bologna.
