Beukema: 'I had a tendon problem, now I'm ready'
The Dutch defender explains why he has been sidelined this season and looks ahead to Sunday's game against his former club Bologna.
Sam Beukema has explained why he has been on the margins this season, telling Kiss Kiss Napoli he had "a tendon problem" that kept him out of pre-season training. "It wasn't nice for me to be out," the Dutch defender admitted. He has been back training with the group for a few weeks now: "Now I feel good and I'm ready."
Beukema backed head coach Allegri and his staff, calling them "very close-knit, human and positive people." Napoli, though, are stuck on three points from three Serie A games, 12th in the table, and coming off a 0-1 home defeat to Arsenal in the Champions League. "We have to give everything, we have a really strong squad. Enough talking, we need facts on the pitch," he said, setting the team's target: "We want to reach March in all three competitions."

Beukema will face Bologna at the Maradona on Sunday 13 September — the club that launched him in Italy and with whom he won the Coppa Italia (Italy's cup competition), reaching the Champions League. "I'll always be grateful to them," he said, also recalling his close bond with Bologna midfielder Ferguson: "He's like my brother, we talk often." But the priority is clear: "Right now, only Napoli matters, only winning that match matters."
