Marín: Roma's 89th-minute equaliser in 3-3 draw was a clear foul on Beukema

The Napoli defender says Balerdi's late goal should not have stood, but accepts the team must "improve a lot". Napoli are 9th with 11 points, 11 behind leaders Lazio.

Rafa Marín says Roma's equaliser in the 3-3 draw should never have counted. Balerdi scored in the 89th minute, six minutes after McTominay put Napoli 3-2 ahead. "For us, and for everyone who was in the stadium, and those who watched on television, it is a clear foul on Beukema, and I think that says it all," Marín said. "At the end even Allegri was angry, like everyone. It was a clear foul and a goal that shouldn't be there."

That is the view of a player who was in the back line. One fact stands regardless: Napoli led 2-0 and then 3-2, and for the second time let Roma draw level. Head coach Allegri, sent off from the bench late on, had already said Napoli have been pegged back many times this season.

Marín also spoke about his own position. "I'm happy, I've always said I'm happy here in Naples, for the city, for the football, for everything, for the fans. I also have the trust of Allegri." Then the line that matters most for the table: "We are aware we have to improve a lot to get the results we want." Lazio lead with 22 points. Napoli travel to Monza on Wednesday 28 October at 20:45 CET (19:45 UK, 14:45 ET), with no margin for dropping more points.
