Manna picks Monaco pair Coulibaly and Camara to rebuild Napoli midfield

Both midfielders were born in 2004. The sporting director sees them as cover for the possible departures of Anguissa and Lobotka, and the plan is to move in the summer.

Napoli sporting director Giovanni Manna has chosen two Monaco midfielders to rebuild the centre of the team: Coulibaly and Camara, both born in 2004.

Manna has followed Coulibaly for a long time. Coulibaly is under contract at Monaco until 2028, and Napoli want to look further into a deal for the summer. Camara appeals because of his age and because his terms fit the club's financial limits. He is also making a name for himself in France.

Both Frenchmen had already been linked with Napoli as a double signing in January. The reason is plain to see. Anguissa's contract expires in June 2027. Lobotka is out for around six weeks with a left ankle problem and is one of the players who could leave.

One question has to be asked, though. After the 2-0 in Turin and the 4-1 in Porto, Manna is under scrutiny for the way he built this squad. Now, a year later, he has to rebuild its core.

First comes the league leaders, Lazio, at the Maradona on Sunday 8 November, kick-off 12:30 CET (11:30 UK, 06:30 ET). With Lobotka out, the midfield will be Anguissa, Gilmour and McTominay.
