Napoli captain Di Lorenzo misses Italy duty with adductor injury

He stayed in Naples instead of travelling to Portugal, and is now expected to be out for around two weeks. He is one of five players Napoli lost on a single night in Turin.

Di Lorenzo will miss Italy's Nations League games against France and Belgium because of the adductor strain he picked up at the Allianz Stadium. The Napoli captain did not travel with the squad to Portugal and stayed in Naples.

Napoli play at the Dragão at 21:00 CET (20:00 UK, 15:00 ET) on Wednesday 4 November without any of their four recognised full-backs. Olivera, Spinazzola and Favasuli are also out. Di Lorenzo is one of 11 players certain to miss the visit of league leaders Lazio to the Maradona at 12:30 CET on Sunday 8 November. He is expected to be out for around two weeks and is aiming to return against Torino on Saturday 21 November.

Missing Italy is not the real problem. Napoli came away from Turin with five players out after a single night. Højlund and Milinković-Savić dropped out before kick-off, then Di Lorenzo, De Bruyne and Olivera broke down during the game. A squad built to finish near the top now goes into the Champions League and the Lazio game without both of its first-choice full-backs. The people who built the squad and the people who manage it both have to answer for that.
