Napoli chased Vlahovic, then Gabriel Jesus, before keeping Lucca
Massimiliano Allegri's first summer target was priced out, and a second move also collapsed, leaving Lorenzo Lucca as Napoli's only recognised centre-forward.
Massimiliano Allegri's first choice in the transfer window was Dusan Vlahovic, the striker who has since left Juventus. His demands were beyond what Aurelio De Laurentiis's club were willing to pay, and the move never got going.
With Vlahovic gone, the board turned to Gabriel Jesus, a target Allegri himself backed. That approach also ended without a deal. No offer for Lorenzo Lucca or Noa Lang was judged good enough to free up a squad spot, so Napoli kept Lucca as their centre-forward.

The choice has yet to pay off. Signed from Udinese for €35m, Lucca is struggling to make an impact in Allegri's Napoli, who sit ninth with 7 points after five games. The window is shut until 2 January, so the attack stays as it is, with Lucca at its centre.
