Napoli fans weigh skipping Lazio after 4-1 defeat in Porto

Some supporters, season-ticket holders among them, are thinking of selling their seats for Sunday's visit of the league leaders. It is not an organised protest. It is frustration with recent performances.

Napoli could play in front of a thinner crowd than usual when Lazio visit the Maradona on Sunday 8 November at 12:30 CET (11:30 UK, 06:30 ET). After the 4-1 defeat in Porto, many fans, season-ticket holders included, may stay away, and some are already looking to resell their tickets.

There is no sign of a protest by the supporters, and this is not an organised movement. In the Distinti (the stands along the side of the pitch) and elsewhere, the frustration has been building over recent performances: first the 2-0 at the Allianz Stadium, with a single shot on target, then three goals conceded from the 71st minute onwards at the Dragão.

Lazio arrive top of the table with 28 points, twice Napoli's 14, and will already be without their own fans because of a ban from the prefect, the local authority in charge of public order. In our view, a season-ticket holder thinking of selling their seat for a game against the league leaders sends a message that Allegri and the club cannot write off as a passing bad mood. On Sunday the team has to give those seats a reason not to stay empty.
