Venezia sack Stroppa, weigh Zanetti and Nicola before Napoli visit
The coach who won promotion from Serie B leaves after six games without a point, with sporting director Filippo Antonelli racing to appoint a successor before the club's hosts face Napoli at the Penzo on Saturday 17 October.

Venezia have officially sacked Giovanni Stroppa, the head coach who led them back to Serie A last season by winning the Serie B play-offs. The club thanked him and his staff "for the work done, the professionalism, dedication and commitment shown" in a statement confirming the end after zero points from six league games.
The decision had been made before the international break, but stalled after two approaches - to Tudor and D'Aversa - were turned down. Sporting director Filippo Antonelli has now narrowed the search to two names: Paolo Zanetti, who has already said he is ready to return to the bench and is the leading candidate, and Davide Nicola, who responded positively overnight but must first sort out his contract with Cremonese.
