Anguissa contract talks stall over pay demand

Anguissa's contract renewal, considered a formality only a few weeks ago, has stalled over one issue: salary. Napoli have offered a three-year extension, but on the same financial terms as his current deal. The Cameroon midfielder reportedly does not see that as enough.

Anguissa is not the only unresolved case in midfield. Lobotka's renewal, with his contract running to 30 June 2027, remains stuck too, as does McTominay's — he is drawing offers above his current terms, including one from Mourinho's Real Madrid. Three contract talks are stalled at once in the department that has carried the team over the last two seasons.

Physically, Anguissa is currently out: a low-grade myofascial injury to his right adductor, confirmed by tests at Pineta Grande Hospital, leaves his availability for Napoli-Frosinone on 10 October in doubt, the first match after the international break.

It is striking that a financial dispute of this size surfaces now, with the team ninth in the table on 7 points after five matchdays and supporters already unhappy with the club over unfulfilled promises on other fronts. The two issues may not be connected, but fans who have spent months demanding clarity from De Laurentiis are unlikely to draw the distinction: a midfield pillar who could leave for a high fee or for free, after winning a Scudetto in the shirt, is not the kind of news that helps anyone right now.

The transfer window is closed and will not reopen until 2 January 2027, so any development for now stays confined to the negotiating table. It should become clear in the coming weeks, rather than months, whether Napoli and Anguissa can find common ground or whether the road leads to a farewell at the end of the season.
