Beukema on Roma 3-3: 'Sorry for how it ended' and vows to bounce back

The Napoli centre-back posted a message to supporters after the draw. He came on in the 52nd minute for the injured Badiashile and was involved in the two goals that reopened the game.

Beukema broke his silence on Sunday 25 October, a day after the 3-3 draw with Roma. "Sorry for how it ended yesterday," he wrote on social media. "There are moments to learn from and to restart with even more determination. I will. Head up and work."

The No 31 replaced the injured Badiashile in the 52nd minute. He lost his man for Soulé's goal to make it 2-1 in the 69th. In the 89th minute, with the score at 3-3, he went down after light contact with Balerdi, who was left with space to shoot in the box. Rafa Marín has already called it a clear foul, while DAZN's referee analysis says the goal is valid. We have covered that separately.

The message is the right one, but it does not change the picture. Napoli led 2-0, then 3-2 with eight minutes left, and now sit ninth on 11 points. Beukema cost €31m, and a player at that price is expected to offer more than a social media post. Napoli travel to Monza on Wednesday 28 October at 20:45 CET (19:45 UK, 14:45 ET), with Badiashile a doubt and a verdict due within 48 hours. The defence has to show it has learned.
