Kvaratskhelia: life is better in Paris than it was in Napoli

The Georgian, a Ballon d'Or contender ahead of next month's ceremony, tells France Football he wasn't the same player during his time at Napoli.

Khvicha Kvaratskhelia has spoken to France Football ahead of the Ballon d'Or ceremony, where he is among the nominees, reflecting on life since leaving Napoli for Paris Saint-Germain, with whom he has won two straight Champions Leagues.

Asked to compare the two cities, he did not hold back: "Paris is definitely better, there are so many tourists and some of them don't know much about football. In Napoli, I think people live for it."

The winger admitted his time in Naples changed him as a player. "In Napoli I wasn't the same type of player. When I arrived there, I realised how much the team gave of itself and how much it respected me. As a result, I felt I had to give my best, because it deserved it." Working under Luis Enrique, he said, raised the bar further: "I understood I had to be at my best, because every player has what it takes to start. If you make one mistake, you can end up on the bench."
