McTominay's return delayed beyond the international break

The midfielder is recovering in England after heart surgery in Manchester and will not be back in Naples until after Fiorentina face Napoli on Sunday 20 September.

Scott McTominay will not be available to Allegri even when Napoli return from the international break. The Scotland midfielder, who had ablation surgery for a heart arrhythmia in Manchester on 9 September, is still in England. The agreed plan has him return to Naples only after the away game at Fiorentina on Sunday 20 September, when the international break begins — it runs from 21 September to 6 October.

Once back at Castel Volturno (Napoli's training ground), McTominay faces roughly two weeks of preparatory work on the pitch before the medical tests required for his sporting fitness certificate. Only then can the medical staff and Allegri settle on a date for his return to the squad.

McTominay has already missed the last two matches, the Champions League game with Arsenal and the league match with Bologna, leaving Allegri without one of his two physical midfielders alongside Anguissa, who is out with a muscular strain. After Napoli-Bologna, Bologna's Scotland midfielder Ferguson had a message for him, wishing him a stronger return.
