Dries Mertens did not hold back. Speaking pitchside for Prime Video at the Maradona, the former Napoli forward gave his verdict on the club's summer business: "I expected more from Napoli's summer window, we definitely needed a few more additions."
The window closed on Tuesday 1 September at 20:00 CET with just two incoming deals, both loans. Asked about it by the same reporters, sporting director Giovanni Manna said the club had chosen not to disrupt the dressing room's balance — a balance that looks financial too, given Napoli sit 12th with 3 points after 3 rounds, and lost 0-1 to Arsenal in the Champions League on Wednesday.

Mertens has said he would one day like a role in Napoli's management, but no great player from the club's past currently sits in the organisation — not even Marek Hamsik, who has never been this direct in his criticism of the board.
