A new catchphrase has taken over Napoli's fan channels within hours of Aurelio De Laurentiis's latest announcements: "from the foundation stone to the first sheet of paper." It sets two dates side by side — 1 September 2025, when the president announced the laying of a foundation stone for a new training ground that never happened, and Wednesday 23 September 2026, when he revealed a letter of intent with Q8 for a new stadium in Napoli Est, the site east of the city. Fans have already nicknamed the letter "the first sheet of paper."
Behind the joke is a wider sense among supporters that they have heard this before. The training ground project promised a year ago has since shifted to the Qualiano area, and now a new chapter is opening on the stadium — a project announced, but with no firm timeline.
