Napoli join Roma, Fiorentina in race for Frosinone's Kvernadze

The club have lodged a formal bid for the Georgian winger, who counts Khvicha Kvaratskhelia as a close friend — though any deal looks set to wait for the January window.

Napoli have submitted a formal offer for Giorgi Kvernadze, Frosinone's Georgian winger born in 2003. Roma and Fiorentina have also lodged proposals, turning the race into a three-way auction.

Frosinone are in no rush. The club believe Kvernadze's value is rising fast and can weigh the financial and sporting sides of each offer at leisure. The final call rests with the Stirpe family, who remain in charge despite selling 80% of their shares to the fund Clara Vista Investment Partners for €41.5m last summer.

One detail adds colour: Kvernadze is at the Maradona on Saturday 10 October, in town with Frosinone for the sixth round of the season.

Napoli believe they also have an edge off the pitch: Kvernadze's friendship with Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, built through the Georgia national team. Aurelio De Laurentiis's board are ready to use that happy precedent — Kvaratskhelia arrived at Napoli and became a symbol of the title win — even as the man himself, sold to Paris Saint-Germain on 26 September, no longer wears the club's shirt.

The January question

Nothing can be finalised soon. The summer window shut on 1 September, and the winter window will not open until 2 January 2027, running until 2 February. For now this is positioning ahead of that window, not a deal close to completion.

The timing says something too. Napoli have just made Lucca's move from Udinese permanent for €35m, with the striker still on zero goals in Napoli colours, and have already set a €20m price on Noa Lang, who Galatasaray are tracking for January. Moving for Kvernadze before the window has even reopened shows how unsettled the attack still is, despite the money already spent.

Frosinone must decide in the coming days where is best for Kvernadze's development, with Napoli, Roma and Fiorentina all in the running. For Napoli, though, the real battle for Kvernadze will not start until the market reopens on 2 January.
