Coca-Cola marks Napoli's centenary with 8 limited-edition cans

The collector's cans, each with its own design, are on sale across Campania. They arrive in a week when the team sits tenth in the table.

Napoli's first century now comes on eight collector's cans. Coca-Cola, a partner of the club's centenary, is selling a limited-edition SSC Napoli can across Campania, the region around Naples. It is available in supermarkets and in bars, restaurants and hotels. Each of the eight designs shows a symbol or moment from the history of the club, which was founded on 25 August 1926.

It is the second collector's item in a few days. On 23 October the club released a Halloween shirt dedicated to the Munaciello, a figure from Neapolitan folklore, limited to 2,026 pieces. The centenary itself was in August, but the merchandising has not stopped.

The timing is awkward. Napoli are tenth with 11 points after 8 games, 11 points behind Inter and Lazio. It is their worst start since 2009-10. Fans are happy to collect the history. The present is harder to celebrate.

Napoli play Monza away at the U-Power Stadium on Wednesday 28 October at 20:45 CET (19:45 UK, 15:45 ET), with Landucci on the bench in place of the suspended Allegri. A hundred years can be celebrated on a can, but this fanbase measures them in the league table.
